Acupressure has been used as a form of healing in Asia for over 5,000 years, and it is now becoming more widely accepted in the mainstream America. Acupressure points work with the body’s energy system. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these points are identified by the meridians or energy channels along which they lie. The meridians run throughout the body and regulate our physical, mental, and emotional processes.
While acupuncture uses needles to stimulate the points, acupressure simply involves massaging the points. By using acupressure points, which are recognized in other forms of bodywork as trigger points, it is possible to relieve muscle tension, increase blood circulation, and enhance the body’s own healing abilities on all levels. It is a very gentle, yet effective form of bodywork that basically helps re-program your body’s energy patterns to achieve a more balanced energy flow.
However, this process does not happen in one session. In my experience, the more acupressure you receive, the more your body will respond to it. When working with a specific issue a minimum of four to six sessions may be necessary to see results.
